Mel

Length: 91 Minutes

I've seen this one. But I can't remember one thing except there was a weird turtle... and maybe a waterfall?

Is it loyal to the book? Don't know about any book.

Best character: Must be the turtle.

But is it art? I remember the turtle being the most obvious puppet in any movie ever, including Treehouse Trolls.... ever heard of that? Prepare for nightmares.

Major Flaws: Apparently the plot isn't stellar. Or my memory is just that bad. There may eventually be an update.

The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice

Length: 95 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? Again, I don't know if there is a book.

Best character: Once again the librarian himself is fun.

But is it art? Somehow this isn't as good as the other Librarian movie... oh wait, it's a sequel!

Major Flaws: Bring a popcorn bucket, the corniness is heating up.

Legend of the Viking Cross

Length: 94 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? Haven't read the book. Christmas present anyone? lol

Best character: Awasis, I loved him in the first film and I still love him. If he isn't a well-rounded character than I don't know who is.

But is it art? So not only does this one have the made-for-TV vibe but it also has the sequel vibe, and as both o those things go, it isn't bad. I prefer the first, but this is still a good option for movie night at my place.

Major Flaws: Seriously, do archeologists often become obsessed to the point of craziness? It seems to be a theme.

Kimba the Lion

Length: Haven't a clue Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? I don't think there are books.

Best character: Kimba.

But is it art? Consider this the unofficial inspiration for The Lion King. Disney will deny it until the company goes belly-up... but everyone knows it is true. Just look at these pictures and tell me any different.
There is a scene with a river that you can almost match up perfectly... but for some reason no one posts that.

Major Flaws: Certainly is early Japanese animation. Not really quite its own thing yet.

Karol: A Man Who Became Pope

Length: 240 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No book.

Best character: Karol

But is it art? A touching biopic for sure. I like that it goes more into his life in Poland than some other films.

Major Flaws: I haven't seen it in a while, but nothing springs to mind.

The Journey of Natty Gann

Length: 101 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No book.

Best character: I came for the wolf and I stayed for Natty Gann. She is a very strong personality and it is hard not to root for her.

But is it art? This is a film that Disney hasn't advertised very well. There were some ads when I was really little and then nothing since. I'm not sure why because it is a great coming of age story and an on the road story.

Major Flaws: The romance feels a little awkward considering the ages of everyone involved.

The Horse Without a Head

Length: 89 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? Don't think there is a book.

Best character: I can't remember character names (French) but the children are all charming.

But is it art? This gem is one of Disney's 'forgotten' films. I'd be willing to put down $.10 that you haven't seen it before.

Major Flaws: As my college roommate pointed out over and over again, why don't they call the police? But that would make the movie much shorter, so sei la vie. (I'm completely aware that that most certainly isn't how to spell it... but my French is a little limited.)

Hoodwinked Too! Hood Vs. Evil

Length: 87 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No book.

Best character: Probably Wolf. I guess... I don't really even know why I'm holding onto this one...

But is it art? It lacks the quirky charm that made the first one so utterly watchable.

Major Flaws: They tried to repeat the formula from the first film and failed. We aren't given any real reason to like this film...

Hiroshima Maiden

No preview on this one...
Length:  58 Minutes

I haven't seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No clue.

Best character: ?

But is it art? ?

Major Flaws: ?

Gunther and the Paper Brigade

Length: 75 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No book.

Best character: Gunther.

But is it art? Pretty standard kids' made-for-tv movie

Major Flaws: A good story has a memorable problem to be solved... I don't remember.

The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island

Length: 120 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No book.

Best character: The original characters make a strong showing in this final installment. The Globetrotters themselves are great fun. Everyone else is a little less thrilling.

But is it art? The idea sounds goofy. But the execution was strong enough to make me remember it, this is the first Gilligan's Island I ever saw, but I was enticed enough to come back for more.

Major Flaws: The replacement castaway Thurston Howell IV... you know when it was one of the dozen consistencies in the original series that there was no Howell heir.

Rescue From Gilligan's Island

Length: 95 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No book.

Best character: Well, again I like them all (except fake Ginger, just can't get over that). It certainly ISN'T the bad guys, the Sovietest of all the villains to grace the show.

But is it art? Overall I would rate this one a little lower than the average episode because of the Soviets and the world's least convincing shark.

Major Flaws: See above...

Ghosts of Dicken's Past

Length:  90 Minutes

I haven't seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No book.

Best character: ?

But is it art? ?

Major Flaws: ?

Friendship's Field

Length:  84 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? I find no evidence that there is a book.

Best character: It has been a long time since I saw this film but I was completely in love with Ira a kid.

But is it art? This movie has a great lesson about overcoming prejudice. I remember seeing this film over and over, it always seemed like a history lesson. When I grew up I realized that the movie could just as easily be set in the present.

Major Flaws: I can't think of anything, but again it has been a long time since I've watched it.

Francis of Assisi

I can find the whole movie but not a trailer... suffice to say he is an awesome saint and I expect him to have an awesome movie.

Length:  105 Minutes

I haven't seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? ?

Best character: ?

But is it art? ?

Major Flaws: ?

Dinotopia: The Series

Dinosaurs, dinosaurs, dinosaurs!!!

Length:  42 Minutes 13 Episodes

I've seen most of this one.

Is it loyal to the book? Hmmm... All products in the Dinotopia Franchise are somewhat independent.

Best character: Zipeau the Librarian

But is it art?  Maybe. I've got a confession though... I've got a bit of a thing for dinosaurs... not in a nerdy educational way (but I do indulge in dino documentaries). I just love to LOOK at the things. I'm a complete and total sucker for all things dinosaur in film. From Dinotopia to The Land Before Time to Jurassic Park - I love them all.

Major Flaws: The scripts might be a little... weak. How weak? Well from the episodes that I've seen I can tell you that... um... something about government? maybe those sunstones again? THERE WAS DEFINITELY A T-REX INVOLVED!!!

Cheaper By the Dozen

Length: 85 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? Haven't read the book.

Best character: Frank Gilbreth

But is it art? This one is far superior to the new film in my opinion. It manages to strike all the right notes and pull at your emotions, plus the family feels more genuine to me... not just a bunch of funny stereotypes thrown together.

Major Flaws: Sometimes the color seems a little off... like when you look at an old photograph and can immediately guess what decade it was taken in. (Does thicker atmosphere affect colors every 15 years or so?) It is very distracting the first fifteen or twenty minutes of the film.

The Buttercream Gang

Length: 95 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No book, that I'm aware of.

Best character: Errrrrr....

But is it art? Ahhhh....

Major Flaws: Well you see, I don't remember much of it.

Borrowed Hearts

Length: 91 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No book, that I'm aware of.

Best character: Big Business Angel Man Who Is Apparently Taking a Break From Being A Royal Bodyguard.

But is it art? Here Budget, budget, budget... where are you?

Major Flaws: Take smarm, add Christmas. Mix thouroghly with unwavering cute child. Serve warm.(Check blood sugar levels after injesting.)

BUT I STILL LIKE IT OKAY?!?!?!

Blinky Bill The Complete Series

Length: 22 Minute Episodes... or as my dad would say, "Too long."

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No. Maybe the first episode... no, probably not.

Best character: I guess Blinky Bill, although my dad is of the opinion that his voice could cut through reinforced steel doors...

But is it art? I haven't got much to compare it with, being relatively unfamiliar with Australian animation, but it is quite cartoonish by my usual standards.

Major Flaws: I don't like that I have three discs worth of Blinky Bill and only get the theme song ONE TIME. C'mon Australia, the theme song is the only thing that brought me back to Blinky Bill.
