Much Ado About Nothing

If you ever watched Harry Potter thinking... "Hmm... Professors Lockhart and Trelawney would make a good couple." This is your big day.

Length: 111 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? It's Shakespeare being performed by Shakespearean actors, so... All I'm saying is that the script was literally the easiest part to adapt. BAM! Done.

Best character: I think Benedick and Beatrice are hilarious... but Claudio will always hold a special place in my heart since I had him in my English class. :)

But is it art? YES. One doesn't perform 400 year old plays because they are out of new material.

Major Flaws: It is hard impossible to believe that Denzel Washington and Keanu Reeves are half-brothers. Both are great in their role but I cannot fathom how they thought we wouldn't notice...

Men in Black

Length: 98 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? Don't believe there is a book.

Best character: Agent JRFNKWRBGKAJSNF.... It has been a while, okay?

But is it art? Meh.

Major Flaws: Like I said, "Meh." This is one of those films that seem fun while I'm watching... but can't remember a thing later.

The Lion King 2

Length: 81 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? NOOOOOOOO. After The Lion King Disney actually wrote a follow-up series. Which they proceeded to ignore for this movie.

Best character: I actually really dig newcomers Kiara and Kovu.

But is it art? Not bad for a sequel. Gives us marvelous songs (one of those came for the story but stayed for the soundtrack sort of films); in fact it includes the incredible 'He Lives in You' aka The Clean-Up Song, aka My Ringtone, aka The Best Song in the Broadway Musical...

Major Flaws: Good Lord Simba, man up. You are not the king I know you would admire.

The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice

Length: 95 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? Again, I don't know if there is a book.

Best character: Once again the librarian himself is fun.

But is it art? Somehow this isn't as good as the other Librarian movie... oh wait, it's a sequel!

Major Flaws: Bring a popcorn bucket, the corniness is heating up.

Kung Fu Panda

What do you mean that song is from a different movie? I thought it was from ALL movies?

Length: 95 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No book.

Best character: Shifu, Shifu, Shifu, Shifu

But is it art? I was not expecting big things from this movie. I ignored it. Then I rolled my eyes at the previews. I scoffed at the DVDs in the stores. Then I watched it. Holy. Dreamworks, I apologize, but if you hadn't advertised the darned thing as being Panda Shrek back in the day I might have bee more eager. After all pandas are my favorite.

Major Flaws: Besides the aforementioned advertising fail? There are a few instances of crude humor that I could have easily lived without.

Journey to the Center of the Earth

Length: 92 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? So not true to the book. Has some elements from it but that is about it.

Best character: No preferences.

But is it art? Not too shabby, the story holds up fairly well on its own.

Major Flaws: This was the very beginning of the 3D craze. THEY MILKED IT. There are so many gimmicky distracting shots. Also, there is a dinosaur in this film that is almost forgettable, dinosaurs shouldn't be forgettable.

Ice Age: Continental Drift

Length: 94 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No book.

Best character: I like Diego, because he is a saber-toothed cat and I dig those.

But is it art? None of the Ice Age films are going to be candidates for films to send out on deep space probes. But as sequels go (even compared to preceding sequels) it isn't bad.

Major Flaws: You spend a good chunk of the film wondering how many of these they're going to make.

Green Acres Season 1

Length:  22 Minute Episodes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No Book

Best character: I like pretty much all the regulars, but I especially love Oliver Wendell Douglas. His hilarious attempts at farming by the book and his wide-eyed optimism for his miserable property never stop amusing me.

But is it art? It certainly gave a unique perspective on the usual social comedy of the era. It isn't as corny as the surface would have you believe, there are great talking points about how rural and urban relations have and continue to be played out in our country.

Major Flaws: The aforementioned surface corn. More of a minor flaw really seeing as this is a comedy.

Gnomeo and Juliet

Length: 84 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? It is inspired by Romeo and Juliet... if you hadn't figured that out then you need a lesson in wordplay. Anyhow it somehow manages to not be entirely faithful. Weird.

Best character: Featherstone the lovesick flamingo. He is the funniest and the most sentimental character in the whole movie.

But is it art? This movie was a labor of love from Elton John and it shows. While not as technically polished as movies from the big name companies it has all the heart.

Major Flaws: That gnome in a g-string or whatever it is called will never cease to be painful.

The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island

Length: 120 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No book.

Best character: The original characters make a strong showing in this final installment. The Globetrotters themselves are great fun. Everyone else is a little less thrilling.

But is it art? The idea sounds goofy. But the execution was strong enough to make me remember it, this is the first Gilligan's Island I ever saw, but I was enticed enough to come back for more.

Major Flaws: The replacement castaway Thurston Howell IV... you know when it was one of the dozen consistencies in the original series that there was no Howell heir.

Castaways of Gilligan's Island

Length: 90 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No book.

Best character: Ummmm....

But is it art? Er....

Major Flaws: Okay. I admit to remembering exactly nothing about this movie. I just read the synopsis and still don't remember. I'm a failed GI Nerd.

Rescue From Gilligan's Island

Length: 95 Minutes

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No book.

Best character: Well, again I like them all (except fake Ginger, just can't get over that). It certainly ISN'T the bad guys, the Sovietest of all the villains to grace the show.

But is it art? Overall I would rate this one a little lower than the average episode because of the Soviets and the world's least convincing shark.

Major Flaws: See above...

Gilligan's Island The Complete Series

Length: 22 Minute Episodes - 3 Seasons

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No book.

Best character: I like all the characters... some certainly have more good episodes than others though.

But is it art? This is a fine social commentary focusing on a microcosm society filled with archetypes. It also examines the endless struggle humans have against the environment, the battle for survival against the elements, and the malevolent forces of luck.

Major Flaws: Some episodes stray from silly to downright insane.

Full House Season 1

Length: 22 Minute Episode

I've seen this one.

Is it loyal to the book? No book

Best character: It varies. As ensembles go this one is pretty good.

But is it art? ...not exactly. Good, but not a high art form.

Major Flaws: Only what you would normally find on a TV sitcom.
